The Setting
French shipbuilder Piriou has delivered a novel crusing cargo ship for TransOceanic Wind Transport (TOWT), which plans to scale up its sail-powered transatlantic freight service.
The 266-foot vessel – named Anemos – is the primary in a sequence of eight for TOWT. The small ship took two years to construct, and it attracts on superior sail know-how from ocean racing. Programs from ocean racing have impressed most of the maritime trade’s most novel decarbonization concepts, like modular wing gross sales or the superior hydrofoils on Artemis Applied sciences’ workboats and ferries.
Anemos advantages from French experience on this demanding discipline: a number of French producers and designers contributed to the ship’s design, stated Piriou. The hull was constructed at Piriou’s Romania yard, then transferred to Concarneau, France for outfitting. More here.
